impACT, our CSR strategy for 2030

We want to be a company with a positive, regenerating impact.

Zoom in on the arms of four people checking hands

At Expanscience, our purpose is to help individuals shape their well-being. We are convinced that this well-being cannot be separated from that of the planet and that companies have a key role to play in preserving it. This is why we have acted to reduce our imprint on people and the planet and reinvent ourselves.

A new stage in our commitment

From joining the United Nations Global Compact in 2004, to our first cycle of commitments in 2010, via our Better Living Program to contribute to our communities living better in 2015 and our B Corp certification in 2018, we have come a long way!

Today, in light of the environmental and social challenges worldwide, we are more determined than ever to do more. As a B CORP company, we want to contribute to a better world Our impACT program marks a major turning point for our company and sets us on our pathway to 2030/2040.

What is our ambition for tomorrow with impACT? We want to be a company with a positive, regenerative impact. In concrete terms, this means that we act so that our activities, products and services will preserve resources while leaving the least possible trace on ecosystems, or even that they will contribute to restoring them and creating social and societal value.

Major challenges

Our impACT strategy meets 4 strategic objectives in relation to our reason for being to help individuals shape their well-being.

  1. Design products and services that are useful to well-being, eco-socio designed and increasingly inspired by nature and living things.

  2. Contribute to reaching planetary climate goals and to the protection and regeneration of biodiversity.

  3. Help our employees take an active part in their personal fulfillment and construct a more inclusive and supportive company with them.

  4. Mobilize our communities and ecosystems to build together business models with a positive impact on society, individuals and their environment.

Among our key commitments

To reduce our greenhouse gas emissions:

As we are a mission-driven company, we have an important role to play in reducing our impact on climate change and adapting our operations to engage in a low-carbon transition.

To do so, Expanscience has established a proactive approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions related to its activities in recent years. We conducted our first carbon assessment in 2008, and in 2019 we carried out a complete inventory of our emissions including all the group’s activities and our international subsidiaries.

In 2023, we set a new milestone by committing to the Science-based Targets initiative: our path to reducing our GHG emissions (on scopes 1, 2, 3) was validated as compatible with the IPCC recommendations: limiting temperature rises to 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels.

In concrete terms, this means that we will:

  • reduce our GHG emissions by 35% by 2030 (compared to 2019);

    That is, a reduction of our absolute GHG emissions by 46.2% in 100% for our scopes 1 and 2, and a reduction of 46.2% in 73% for our scope 3 (i.e. products and services purchased, emissions linked to fuels and energy, business travel and commuting, goods transport, distribution and end-of-life of our products) by 2030 compared to 2019

  • reduce our GHG emissions by 81% by 2050 (compared to 2019);

    That is, a reduction of our absolute GHG emissions by 90% in 95% for our scopes 1 and 2 and a reduction of 90% in 90% for our scope 3, by 2050 compared to 2019

  • ensure that our GHG emissions that can't be reduced are stored sustainably using natural carbon sinks (trees, soil, plants, etc.) by 2050.

The Science-based targets initiative informs companies of how much they need to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by. In 2018, the IPCC warned: global warming must not exceed +1.5°C in order to avoid irreversible runaway effects for the planet and its occupants. With this observation to be confronted, the SBTi was established with experts from global reference organizations: Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The SBTi supports companies (methodology, resources, technical assistance) and enables them to define their decarbonisation goals in line with climate science. The SBTi independently assesses then validates these objectives according to strict criteria, demonstrating that the company’s GHG reduction pathway is consistent with the IPCC recommendations. In concrete terms, for Expanscience this means reducing GHG emissions by 35% in 2030 and by -81% in 2050 compared to 2019, ensure that our GHG emissions that can't be reduced are stored sustainably using natural carbon sinks (trees, soil, plants, etc.) by 2050. To do so, Expanscience works on all stages of a product's life cycle: energy management, raw material selection, packaging and product distribution. The Lab impACT

Cooperating to become a regenerative company

At the end of 2022, we created the Lab impACT. Its aim? To bring together a community of internal and external players to help us and our ecosystem transitionning to new regenerative models.

As a collective movement whose aim is to catalyze positive-impact initiatives, the Lab impACT's vocation is to experiment with regeneration to guide us towards our ambition for 2040.

Since its creation, we have been able to learn about the notion of regenerative models via an acculturation program in collaboration with the Lumiå school, gain a better understanding of our Epernon location with the support of the Open Lande team, and visit inspiring entities such as Ulterïa, Pocheco, Nature et Découvertes and Reforest’Action.

Working towards regeneration also means rethinking our impact on the local environment. This is why we are developing partnerships with local players to meet ecological challenges. For example, we are currently in a test phase with the Tremblaye agroecological farm , also B Corp certified, located just 15 km from our Epernon site. The aim of this collaboration is to recycle our washing water in the farm's methanizer to produce biogas. We also work with local farmers to source locally the raw materials and plant ingredients at the heart of some of our cosmetics formulations.

Expanscience's regenerative team

Becoming a regenerative company with a positive impact is a very ambitious challenge.
To meet our objectives, we are going to mobilize all of our employees and stakeholders.
Because if each of us has a role to play, together we will have a greater positive impact on the world around us!
